VIDEO: Hong Kong policeman talks of pride in ‘restrained’ Occupy response

In the latest self-promoting video from Hong Kong Police – who seem to have been on a heavy PR push since, say… Sept, 28 last year – we hear from Senior Superintendent David Jordan, notably one of the white officers seen in last year’s Occupy clashes.

Usually assigned to the sufficiently sleepy New Territories, Jordan’s steel was no doubt put to the test during the pro-democracy rallies.

He was even pictured by Coconuts HK with blood on his face – much to the annoyance of some of our fans who accused us of being pro-police, which was actually quite a nice change.

After introducing himself (in English and Cantonese – show-off), Jordan explains how the “overriding lesson” he will take forwards from the weeks of protests is: “a feeling of pride in the way the Force and the officers […] handled these three months”.

Not exactly a lesson. Maybe old dogs are unteachable after all.

After gushing about the “level of restraint and patience” seen among the force, Jordan insists, “I am fully committed to the Hong Kong community. I have children that were born here and I wish to see have a fruitful and enjoyable childhood.”

Let’s just hope they don’t end up wanting universal suffrage. No one likes to bump into their folks when they’re out with their friends.
