VIDEO: China Uncensored touts sensational but believable conspiracy theory for Hong Kong’s political woes

Two of our favourite anti-Beijing outposts have joined forces to create a video that is as informative as it is sensationalist and entertaining.

After catching our attention earlier this month with its Daily Show-style sarcastic synopsis of Hong Kong’s battle for democracy, China Uncensored is back!

This time affirming that “What’s happening in Hong Kong is not what you think”, the cheeky YouTube channel has teamed up with our favourite anti-establishment blog, Hong Wrong (which supplied some photographs) to bring us a conspiracy theory worth considering.

Presenter Chris Chappell claims that there could be more behind the decision of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) to deny full universal suffrage in the 2017 elections. Let’s just pause for a second and enjoy how he introduces the subject:

“The NPC ruled that nominees for Hong Kong’s Chief Executive must be pre-approved by the Communist Party. That’s like telling a flock of sheep they get to choose between whether a wolf or a dingo watches over them”. lol.

Chappell suggests that those loyal to retired Communist Party general secretary Jiang Zemin would actually welcome unrest and a Tiananmen-style crackdown, as this would discredit current President Xi Jingping and clear the way for Jiang’s camp to regain power.

“I think it’s blood on the street they want. Another Tiananmen massacre,” says Chappell. “If they can manufacture another one in Hong Kong, that would be a huge blow to Xi”.

Hong Kong is later likened to “a powder keg”, ready to go up in flames with even the smallest spark.

The theory is certainly a little “out there”, but Chris does acknowledge this at the end of the clip. “At the risk of sounding a little ‘Lord of the Ringsy’, there are sinister forces bent against you… but I don’t think you need me to tell you that!”

No, Chris. We really don’t!
