VIDEO: Chief Secretary Carrie Lam meets with Occupy Central organisers, says the sit-in is “sort of not acceptable”

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam met with the organisers of Occupy Central yesterday and told them that the Hong Kong government does not agree with their planned sit-in nor and their objectives. Lam urged them to scrap their plans.

Well I don’t think we can convince the conveners of Occupy Central to drop their plan. As you all know they’ve been planning this movement for quite some time. But I did very sincerely explain to them that we do not condone the practice nor do we agree with the objective.

The practice is to occupy central or even to paralyze central and this practice is sort of not acceptable because it will cause a lot of disruption to the daily operation of our central business district and indeed quite a lot of business organizations and groups in our society have expressed their concern recently so I have brought this to their attention.

As far as the objective I think it would not be possible to try to coerce the central authorities into a particular position on this important subject of selection of the Chief Executive by threatening to do some sort of action like Occupy Central.

So I really do hope that they would take our advice before they consider the way forward.
