VIDEO: Chaos in Hong Kong’s Tamar Park, protester pepper sprayed while filming

A video just uploaded to Vimeo by a certain Howie Carlin shows the chaotic scenes in Hong Kong’s Tamar Park as police attempted to clear what appears to be a very small group of protesters from the area.

Although there is no text accompanying the upload, Carlin gave the video this title in a Reddit post today: “Me getting maced in the face by aggressive policeman in Tamar Park.” An interesting boast, but you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth, right?

The footage contains plenty of shouting, torch flashing and pushing on behalf of the police, before the screen suddenly goes dark, presumably when the man behind the camera (and his camera) get a dose of pepper spray.

Of course we cannot independently verify exactly what happened on the ground, but a response on Reddit asserts: “Haha, I can almost pinpoint you from seeing other recordings of the same incident. Hope you’re okay now thou.”

Although slightly mean and misspelled, the comment is all the independent verifying we need.
