Venus Williams is Hong Kong’s ace in the hole for October tennis tournament

Goddess of tennis, Venus Williams, is coming to Hong Kong’s Victoria Park in October.

The 35-year-old, who last played in Hong Kong in 2011 – the same year she was diagnosed with auto-immune disease Sjogren’s Syndrome – will join the line-up for the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open on Oct. 12-18.

Williams will compete for the USD250,000 (HKD1.9 million) prize alongside up-and-coming French player Caroline Garcia and defending champion Sabine Lisicki.

Don’t be offended if she doesn’t get too excited though. She’ll probably drop more coin than that on her tournament outfits alone.

The American seven-time grand slam winner has had several previous successes in our fair city, having won the Hong Kong Tennis Classic three times.

The Prudential Open returned to Hong Kong last year for the first time since 1993 after a injection of funds and sponsorship.

Tickets will cost between HKD160-HKD880, with a 20 percent early-bird discount for those who book before Aug. 31.
