Venomous cobra spotted in Cyberport waterfront park

We thought your nightmares didn’t have enough fodder for the day after the story about the three-metre python captured in Sai Kung, so here’s one about a venomous cobra spotted in Cyberport’s waterfront park.

The Pok Fu Lam park is popular among dog walkers, so Mavis Tsang thought she’d alert her fellow canine lovers that snakes abound in the grassy area by posting a video to “Corgi Lovers HK”, a Facebook group. (We don’t own any corgis, but we eagerly await our acceptance into the community.)

各位,數碼港近日發現有蛇出沒,暫時仲未捉到,所以盡量避免去數碼港草地放狗

The video shows a snake that looks to be at least 1.5 metres long slithering around the park, with whoever shot the video getting alarmingly close to the animal.

According to our own in-house amateur herpetologist, the serpent appears to be a Chinese cobra, a common venomous snake found in Taiwan and much of China.

You should probably avoid picnics in the park for now.
