US mom leaves Hong Kong after raising HKD200,000 for premature baby’s medical bills

Baby Kyuss meets his sister Acadia (yep, they all have weird names)

An American mother who gave birth to her son prematurely in Hong Kong has finally returned home with her baby after raising almost HKD201,500 for her medical bills through crowdfunding.

Wendy Morrow was given the green light to fly home to Iowa with new son Kyuss on Saturday after paying her medical bills, which started at HKD186,000 and rose by HKD12,400 daily.

Kyuss arrived into the world at Hong Kong Airport in May 7 as Morrow was on her way to her brother’s wedding in China.

Being nine weeks early and weighing only 4lb, his lungs were underdeveloped and he needed to be kept in a incubator and fed with a tube.

According to reports, Princess Margret’s ICU unit would not release the birth certificate needed to obtain baby Kyuss’ passport until Morrow paid her medical bills, but neither her US medical insurance nor her travel insurance would cover the surprise delivery.

Now paid up back home introducing Kyuss to his new family, Morrow took to her Facebook page to thank those who had donated to the GoFundMe page.

“Thank you everyone who has followed this Journey with us! We were so happy to see our family waiting for us. God Bless!”
