Unsatisfied City: Almost half Hong Kong women say their sex lives suck

Work life can be stressful and unfulfilling in Hong Kong, so the least we can do is make sure we enjoy ourselves between the sheets. Unfortunately, however, that seems not to be the case for nearly half of the city’s women.

According to a survey commissioned by Smile Makers, which makes vibrators (that you can now buy in Watsons, FYI), 47 percent of women in the Fragrant Harbour say their sex lives stink.

The research was conducted last month by Ipsos, which interviewed 500 women in Hong Kong between the ages of 22 and 49.

Our 47 percent sexual satisfaction rate lags behind Taiwan’s 64 percent, but beats Singapore’s 33 percent, according to previous studies by Smile Makers. The latter figure is no surprise really; how anyone can get off in a sterile wonderhell like Singapore is anyone’s guess. (Just kidding, not kidding.)

Of the frustrated Hong Kong ladies, 32 percent said their sexual partners didn’t respect their needs, i.e. finish the race too early, while a whopping 76 percent said foreplay was insufficient.

Encouragingly, however, it seems our worldly women are taking matters quite literally into their own hands, with two in five of those who are not happy saying they are trying various methods to increase their satisfaction, including using vibrators.

In fact, 32 percent of Hong Kong ladies say they’ve used a vibrator before, compared to 25 percent in typically repressed Britain and 31 percent in notoriously liberated France.

We say equip yourself with the tools ladies and make sure you’re doing the right kind of moaning when it comes to your sex life.
