A university lecturer was injured in a knife attack late last night in Wang Chau, near the Yuen Long development site linked to death threats which forced newly elected lawmaker Eddie Chu into hiding.
The 29-year-old victim, surnamed Man, was ambushed by two knife-wielding men, one of whom was masked, on Fuk Hi Street while he was walking home at around 11:45pm yesterday, HK01 reports.
The assailants wounded Man on his left forearm and one of his legs before running away, according to Apple Daily.
The 29-year-old went to his home and his family called for help. He was rushed to Pok Oi Hospital and later transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.
Police cordoned off the area where Man was attacked for investigation, but no suspects were found in the vicinity of the assault.
Man said he wasn’t in a dispute with anyone and didn’t know why he was attacked. Sources at the scene told reporters that Man was a lecturer at Lingnan University, but was planning on travelling as his contract recently expired.
Police said they believe the attack to be motivated by a business dispute, and are searching for two Chinese men, both standing at around 1.75 metres tall. One of the men is reported to be thin, and was wearing a sports cap during the incident. The other man was described to be of medium build, and was masked at the time of the attack. Both men were wearing dark shirts and trousers.
An investigation by police officers from Yuen Long District is underway.
