Typhoon Signal No.3 raised, possible T8 tonight!

UPDATE: The Typhoon #8 signal will be likely be raised at or before 5pm. Read more.

This morning the Hong Kong Observatory hoisted the Typhoon Signal No. 3, meaning that winds with average speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

Kindergartens and special schools have closed today, but adults will have to keep working as usual.

As of 11am, Typhoon Linfa was about 250 kilometres east of Hong Kong, and is predicted to move west towards the Pearl River Estuary.

As Linfa creeps up towards the coast of Guangdong, Hong Kong will start seeing squally showers as winds strengthen slowly. So this weekend’s junk trips are in peril too since there will be sea swells!

According to the current forecast, Linfa will come closest to Hong Kong tonight and tomorrow morning, and the Observatory will decide later today whether to issue the Typhoon Signal No. 8 this afternoon and tonight, depending on how Linfa behaves.

Fingers crossed!
