Two women were charged with wounding with intent yesterday after allegedly abusing a 4-year-old girl to the point where she has been left in a coma and clinging to life.

Chan Tin-yau, 36, and Fung Ka-po, 41, appeared in Kowloon City court a few days after they were arrested in Mong Kok, RTHK reports.

The pair are suspected of abusing the girl in Chan’s flat on Fa Yuen Street in Mong Kok between Nov. 18 to Dec. 1.

The prosecution told the court that the child was still unconscious and in a critical condition.

Proceedings were adjourned until Jan. 2 pending further investigations, and both defendants were denied bail.

The incident happened last month when the girl’s mother, a 29-year-old woman surnamed Cheng, took her daughter to Chan’s place where she offered to babysit her.

The girl was taken to Kwong Wah hospital after her mother found her daughter semi-conscious and covered with scars and burns all over her body, Apple Daily reports.
