Two kids from correctional institutions to compete in international milk tea contest

Two “young persons in custody”, as the government calls them, from the Cape Collinson Correctional Institution (CCCI) will be competing in the 2014 International KamCha Competition to make the best milk tea ever. The competition will be taking place on August 14.

In a statement, the officer of CCCI made deep connections between milk tea and discipline that would give the “wax on, wax off” sensei from Karate Kid a run for his money.

“Making a cup of quality milk tea calls for full concentration by the cook and a complicated preparation procedure, and the process calls for constant self-improvement,” he said.

Some people find their zen on a yoga mat, others find it in a tea cup.

Making milk tea is a part of the CCCI’s Food and Beverage Training Workshop, which aims to give young adults in custody the vocational training they need to enter the workforce.

“We hope they can keep up their momentum, continue to improve and share the Hong Kong spirit with others by making milk tea when they join the food and beverage industry in the future,” says the first assistant officer of CCCI.

We’ve all gotta dream, right?
