‘Life in Color’ and ‘Color Run’ events canceled over flammable powder concerns

Two events scheduled to take place at the AsiaWorld-Expo have been cancelled in the aftermath of the Taipei “party powder” incident due to public concerns over safety.

The organiser of the canceled music party “Life in Color” did so in consideration of “public sentiment” after the powder explosion in Taiwan that killed three people and left hundreds of people injured, six of which are Hongkongers, on June 27.

Announcements regarding refunds for the show and a replacement programme are in the offing, SCMP reports.

Also canceled is the “Color Run”, a five-kilometre race where participants are pelted with coloured powder, due to be held in December.

Both events would have used paint powder or coloured corn starch, neither of which are the same as the powder used at the Formosa Fun Coast water park in New Taipei City, but which sparked concern from the government and the public all the same.

The Fire Services Department earlier stated that it would not issue a license for the first event until the product had been tested.

“Life in Color” will return next summer, said a statement from the venue management.
