TurboJET ferry crashes into Macau seawall

A TurboJET ferry vessel departing from Sheung Wan terminal towards Macau crashed this morning at around 9:35am.

The crash occurred when the ferry was near the Macau ferry terminal, the vessel hit the seawall of the docks while it was trying to berth. Macau maritime officials claim the ferry did not steer to turn in time, thus hitting the south side of the docks. Authorities are investigating whether the accident was caused by a mechanical failure or negligence.

On board were 228 passengers and 13 crew, about 67 were injured – all of which were sent to the hospital for treatment via 17 ambulances.

According to the RTHK, the hospital reported that 45 men and 22 women were sent to the hospital for treatment. Most of them suffered from bruises and sprains and were conscious when they arrived. One 40-something-year-old man however, suffered a heavy blow to his head but is currently in stable condition.
