Authorities have ordered the evacuation of a hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui where at least two guests and a restaurant worker been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

The Royal Garden Hotel wrote in a Facebook post on Friday that guests are advised to evacuate by noon, and that the hotel and all its restaurants would suspend operations for 14 days.

The hotel will be deep-cleaning the premise in time for reopening on October 22.

According to reports, at least two more workers at the hotel are among the 8 new infections Friday. If confirmed, that would bring the total number of cases linked to the hotel to five.

Concerns of an outbreak at the hotel comes as Hong Kong sees a spike in coronavirus cases after just having appeared to combat a third wave of the virus.

Yesterday, the city recorded 18 new infections, the highest in almost three weeks. The new cases included 11 linked to a residential home for the disabled in Kwai Chung. A man who regularly attends fitness classes in Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, and whose infection has no epidemiological links, also tested positive.

Authorities are reportedly discussing a re-tightening of social distancing policies, including the potential closure of bars, amid what is feared to be the start of a fourth wave. Dining establishments, health experts say, could be to blame for the resurgence of the virus as they may not be diligently enforcing restrictions.

Health officials are also setting up four testing centers in Kwai Chung, Kowloon City, Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai, where there are more infections, for citizens to get tested for free.
