It’s been a rough week on Hong Kong’s roads.
Let’s begin with the most recent: A four-vehicle pile-up on Tuen Mun about 8pm last night, which left a truck driver in hospital.
Judging by dash cam footage of the crash, things could’ve been worse, given three heavy vehicles — two trucks and a bus– were involved, as well as a red-topped taxi.
It appeared to be a case of mistimed merging. The footage shows the Yuen Long-bound coach switching lanes before rear-ending the back of a truck, which then hits another truck, as a taxi, which had also been attempting to change lanes, gets caught up in the collision.

According to the newspaper, the driver of the truck rear-ended by the coach was trapped in his vehicle and had be rescued by firefighters. He was taken to hospital with injuries to his foot.
The crash comes days after a deadly coach and taxi crash in Tsing Yi in the early hours of Friday morning.
And, sadly, the death toll was increased to six yesterday afternoon when the coach driver, identified by Ming Pao as a 62-year-old named Fok Chi-sum, was declared dead just before 2:29pm.
Fok — who was thrown from the bus after it rear-ended the stationary taxi — had been receiving treatment from the intensive care unit at Princess Margaret Hospital. Police are still trying to determine if he dozed off at the wheel prior to the impact.
The five people who died in the crash were aged 30 to 59, and include the taxi driver, and four airport workers. The bus was a shuttle service for staff working at the airport.
