One truck driver is under arrest and another is missing a leg after a violent collision on the side of the Tsing Kwai Highway in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

A 40-year-old driver surnamed Wong had stalled on the Kowloon-bound side of the highway close to the Cheung Tsing Tunnel, according to Ming Pao. He had gotten out of his truck to inspect the vehicle when a truck driven by a man identified only as Kan, 32, violently slammed into the back of his vehicle.

When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious Wong lying in the road, the lower part of his left leg detached and lying about four meters away from him. A passenger in Wong’s vehicle, meanwhile, a fellow transport worker named So, was thrown from the truck by the impact.

Wong was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital in critical condition, while So, 32, was sent to hospital in a semi-conscious state, having sustained injuries to his head and pelvis.

Kan passed a breathalyzer at scene and was arrested for dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm. He was later released on bail and has to report back to the police station in October.

Apple Daily video from the scene shows a sneaker and some patches of blood on the road close to the vehicles.
