It sounds like a scene from a gangster movie: two bars in Tsim Sha Tsui ransacked by triad members from rival gangs within days of each other in a bid for dominance in the area.
But CCTV and cellphone footage from the incidents — published by Next Magazine yesterday — suggest that’s exactly what played out last week.
According to the magazine, the fracas began on Monday, Dec. 10, when a group of men claiming to be members of the Sun Yee On triad stormed into an upstairs bar on Prat Avenue.
CCTV footage from the night shows the moment the men used wooden sticks and baseball bats to smash the bar’s DJ booth.

Also at the bar on Monday evening were members of the rival triad gang Wo Shing Wo, who were also caught on CCTV video, cornering Sun Yee On members, hitting them with bats, and then chasing them out of the bar.
It isn’t clear from reports where precisely the fight took place.
The Sun Yee On then fought back five days later on Dec. 15, when they went to an allegedly Wo Shing Wo-managed bar on Hillwood Road — a 10 minute walk away from Prat Avenue — armed with butchers knives and baseball bats.
Cellphone footage of that incident — also sent to Next Magazine — shows a war of words between some men inside the bar, with one claiming to be from Wo Shing Wo and telling others to calm down, and adding that he reports to someone nicknamed “Fishball.”
There were no videos of the fight, but one cellphone video sent to the magazine shows a man sitting in the corner of the bar with a bloodied head.
Responding to Apple Daily‘s enquiries about the incident, police confirmed that they haven’t received any reports about the incidents, and assume the matter was settled privately.
A Next Magazine reporter also tried to interview one of the bar staff from one of the bars at the center of the fight, but she declined to comment.
Local media labeled the incident a real-life Young and Dangerous, a reference to a 1996 film about a group of young triad members.
