Toothbrush attack sparks brawl at Hong Kong prison

Reinforcements had to be scrambled at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre, Sham Shui Po, on Sunday after a brawl broke out when one prisoner attacked another with a toothbrush.

The quarrel started between a 34-year-old man and a 45-year-old man, who apparently disagreed in the dayroom over what has been described as “trivial matter”. We’re thinking TV channel.

The older man reportedly attacked the other man’s face with a toothbrush, before five other men joined in the fight.

Officers at the scene were unable to control the ruckus and called for reinforcements.

Once separated, all seven men were taken to hospital for examination, with the 34-year-old sustaining injuries to his face, the 45-year-old sustaining head injuries, and a 31-year-old hurting his hand.

All have now returned to the institution and police are investigating the incident.

The 34-year-old was originally remanded for burglary, while the 45-year-old is in for theft. The other five were incarcerated for breach of condition of stay, remaining in Hong Kong without authority, burglary and trafficking in dangerous drugs.

They can now add inappropriate use of a hygiene product to their rap sheets.
