Three care home workers arrested for common assault after taping patients’ nipples

Three care home workers were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of sticky taping the nipples of mentally disabled patients (also known as common assault).

An employee of the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (NAAC) claimed that four members of staff at Harmony Manor in Sha Tin had repeatedly stuck tape on patients’ nipples and bodies before ripping it off, Ming Pao reports (as translated by HKFP).

In an act of protest, pro-democracy activist Lui Yuk-lin (a.k.a “Lady Long Hair”) tried to break into the care home on Wednesday and taped the entrance in a symbolic stance.

Unsurprisingly, the Hong Kong Joint Council of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped condoned the act in a statement released on Tuesday. They expressed their concerns for how such incidents would impact upon patients’ dignity and mental health.

The accused trio, two women and a male accomplice, will report to the police in mid-February, after being granted bail.

Harmony Manor has been in operation since 2009 under the supervision of the Social Welfare Department.
