Two thieves made off with HKD60,000 worth of cash and valuables yesterday by employing a slightly unconventional technique: throwing sand into their target’s eyes.
At around 11pm yesterday evening, a 52-year-old woman surnamed Chan was walking along Walnut Street in Tai Kok Tsui when two strange men approached her from behind and threw sand into her eyes, temporarily blinding her.
Ming Pao reports that the robbers nicked Chan’s backpack, handbag, which contained HKD47,000 cash, a HKD5,000 smartphone, and a HKD7,000 watch.
The men then got into a private car and escaped, while passersby helped Chan call the police.
Chan was taken to the hospital for treatment. No arrests have been made in connection to the case so far. One of the suspects is around 1.6 to 1.65 metres tall, while the other is about 1.65 to 1.7 metres tall. Both are described to be slim.
We don’t know about the cops, but we’d probably hit up the nearest beaches in case the culprits have half a mind to replenish their (granular) ammo.
