Yesterday was a good day for the beach as temperatures almost hit 35 degrees in the city.

According to Apple Daily, it was the hottest Buddha’s birthday in 71 years after reports that temperatures hit 34.8 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, with some parts of the city, like Mong Kok’s Fa Yuen Street market, reaching 35.7 degrees Celsuis.

And don’t put away that sun lotion yet.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory’s nine-day forecast, today is on track to be the hottest day in May, with temperatures expected to reach lows of 28 degrees Celsius and highs of 35.

The hot weather warning is out so don’t forget to stay cool and hydrated, and be careful with outdoor activities.

According to the Hong Kong Economic Times, a 58-year-old man surnamed Mak had to be taken to hospital after suffering from heat stroke during a hike in Kat O, an island in the northern part of Hong Kong.

The website reported that a friend called for help at about 3pm after Mak reported feeling unwell, dizzy and then fell unconscious.

He was airlifted to Eastern Hospital where her was reported to be in a critical condition, and was taken to the hospital’s intensive care unit.
