More and more teenagers are sharing online their self-harm experiences. A website even described all kinds of self-harm techniques in detail- other than cutting, the site also suggested using staplers or nail clippers to self-harm. Teenagers, after reading the site, also left comments describing how to apply make-up to cover up the scars, and shared graphic photographs of self-inflicted cuts and medicine bottles.
Social workers said that self-harm is becoming more and more common in secondary schools, especially among young females. Students as young as 11 or 12 are engaging in self-harm. The law does not regulate websites that instructs other people on how to self-harm, and only prohibits websites that teaches others to commit suicide. The site has since been shut down by the hosting company.
