A local Hong Kong restaurant’s “Very Lonely (Single) Christmas Set” deal, posted in the window of their Kwun Tong location, struck a chord with Hong Kong’s singles when it was posted onto a Facebook group for viral Hong Kong videos and photos yesterday.

The meal, which has a listed price tag of HK$1,314 (about US$168), offered an array of dishes with comical names that seemed designed to resonate with the recently dumped.

Everything from “Tears Cry Onion Rings” to “So 9 Sad Soup” to the oddly holiday-inappropriate “Girl Dies Girl Alive Salad.”

As a bonus, they even offered to throw in a free hug at the end of the meal.

Sadly, you can’t order any of it. After a bit of digging around, your humble Coconuts HK crew finally managed to track down the restaurant, which copped to placing the menu in their window, but then sheepishly admitted it was all just a Christmas-themed stunt.

“We want to attract more customers,” the admirably honest person who answered the phone told us.

As for the name of the joke menu, we’re guessing it was inspired by the Eason Chan Cantopop classic Lonely Christmas. Here it is for those of you who feel like having a weep over your eggnog.

CORRECTION: The original version of this story proceeded under the assumption that the meal on offer, while ridiculous, was real. After tracking down the restaurant, we found it to be a simple marketing stunt, though a relatively amusing one.
