Leven, an Italian company, started an Indiegogo campaign to fund the free app that they’re developing, called “Bitten”. It’s an attempt to turn one of the worst downsides of summer—relentless, blood-thirsty mosquitos—into a fun, positive game you play with your friends.
Bite on the neck? 50 points for you! Damn it, Sarah got 120 more points than you did this week. Sarah might have a higher chance than you at getting dengue fever, but at least she’s winning Bitten! It’s a wacky concept, but if someone’s offering a way to make the torture of itchy bites into something worth smiling about, we’ll take it.
You can even map where exactly on your body you’ve been bitten, and it’ll calculate a breakdown of where you get bitten the most. In an age where everyone’s obsessed with gamifying and gathering data about the most minute details of their lives, from how many calories they consume and burn, to how many REM cycles they go through at night, there might just be a chance for this to take off.
