Hong Kong police have arrested three Nepali men in connection with a machete attack in Yau Ma Tei on Sunday, which resulted in police shooting two suspects who remain in hospital.
The three men, aged between 18 and 29, rather naively turned up at Yau Ma Tei police station of their own accord to report back on a separate case of possessing offensive weapons, apparently having no idea officers had identified them from Sunday’s street brawl, reports the SCMP.
All three men, who carry Hong Kong identity cards, have been detained on suspicion of wounding with grievous bodily harm.
Chief inspector Kwan Chun-tin of Crime Kowloon West Headquarters said the new arrestees seem to be part of the “same group” as the two men already detained, but declined to comment on whether the gang has triad links.
On Sunday, police fired four rounds at a group of attackers with machetes who were chasing two men. One alleged attacker was shot in the arm and another in his waist and hip. Both are still recovering in hospital but were charged in absentia with wounding with intent at Kowloon City Court yesterday.
Police say they are still looking for two more Nepali men in connection to the crime.
