Suspect arrested in connection to 7-Eleven stabbing case that left clerk in critical condition

A suspect was arrested at around 7.30pm yesterday, in connection with the stabbing that took place at a 7-Eleven in Yau Ma Tei on Tuesday evening.

After searching for 25 hours, police officers from the Yau Tsim District apprehended a 32-year-old man in fast food outlet on Jordan Road, Oriental Daily reports.

According to District Commander Cheng Lai-kei, the 32-year-old suspect is a Canadian citizen, of Vietnamese descent. He is reportedly being kept in police custody pending further investigation.

In a press conference, Cheng Lai-kei said the the man’s clothing and bags “very closely matched” the previously released description of the suspect.

Prior to the man’s arrest, police said they “did not rule out” the possibilty that the assailant had also been injured during his fight with the 7-Eleven clerk.When the suspect was apprehended, Cheng said that police noticed he had an injury on his right hand.

Early Tuesday evening, a 38-year-old cashier was severely injured during a physical confrontation with a customer, who had reportedly stolen a packet of crisps and some tissues. The clerk is currently in critical condition, having sustained a four-inch-deep knife wound to his chest. He is due to undergo surgery today.
