Sushi’s Still Safe! Hong Kong Food Secretary resists nudges to relax Fukushima import curbs

Hong Kong sushi lovers will no doubt be pleased to hear that our Food and Health Secretary has gently rejected requests from Japan to ease import curbs from five prefectures thought to have been affected by the 2001 Fukushima disaster.

According to the Japan Times, when pressed by visiting Japanese Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi on Wednesday, Ko Wing-man said that such action would be difficult to implement at the moment, but agreed that regular talks between their two offices should be introduced.

In addition, it was agreed that Hong Kong will be provided with more information on Japan’s radiation monitoring system, with experts invited to the affected areas of Fukushima (obviously), Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma and China to assess the situation first-hand.

Just be on the look out for three-eyed fish we suppose.
