Strangers will be offering you free embraces this Saturday for International Hug Day

Do not be alarmed if a suspiciously cheery stranger comes towards you with arms outstretched, ready to smother you in their bosom!

This Saturday, people will be holding up signs offering “FREE HUGS” in their respective languages at the Central Ferry Piers from 10am to 4pm.

The slightly creepy but also rather heart-warming event is evidently organised on the same day all around the world, with people offering completely free human contact to strangers.

The event doesn’t exactly look like it’ll be highly attended event, with 26 people saying they’re going on the Facebook page (including yours truly), and the International Hug Day Facebook page boasting 24 “likes” total.

So it might just be a few randos loitering around the piers trying to do their part to make the world a happier place… But hey, at least they’re trying!

If you want to join, the organiser asks you to prepare an A4-sized sign that says “FREE HUG” in your language of choice (preferably using recycled materials, of course).

Enjoy canoodling with strangers!
