The police are urging the public to get their shit together after revealing that only 55.5 percent of the 2.32 million 999 calls they received in 2014 were genuine. The remaining 1.03 million calls were “nuisance calls” or “misdialed”.
Butt dials happen to the best of us, but do try to keep your bum away from your phone in order to avoid tying up the police lines in case someone who actually needs urgent help.
As for the prank callers… they could literally call just about anyone else and cause less harm to society.
A police spokesperson said that misuse of 999 can delay the handling of actual emergencies, endangering lives.
He added that people can also report crime or make non-emergency inquiries at their local police stations instead of using the emergency hotline.
