British-Swedish Nils Horner, veteran Hong Kong-based journalist, previously with the Swedish national radio was reported to have been killed in the Afghan capital, Kabul, yesterday.
Taliban militants have denied anything to do with the killing and it’s now reported by British intelligence that a little-known militant group, Fedai Mahaz Tahrik Islami Afghanistan, Suicide Front, has claimed responsibility.
The group claims to have shot 51-year-old Horner who was in the city’s upmarket district and heavily guarded areas for the upcoming presidential election in April for which the Taliban have threatened to attack anyone who takes part. The Taliban however, denies any ties with Suicide Front.
Suicide Front previously claimed responsibility for assassinating the governor of Logar – the attack was condemned by the Tailban group because it happened at a mosque.
