A claypot containing a human skull was discovered at a construction site yesterday.
Just before noon, a 37-year-old man, surnamed Lau, reportedly discovered a “suspicious looking” claypot while working on the MTR South Island Line site under Ap Lei Chau Bridge.
After finding what appeared to be an adult skull inside the earthenware pot, Lau called the police and reported his morbid discovery. Apple Daily reports that officers scoured the area with sniffer dogs and collected the skull and its vessel for further examination.
Later, a police source told reporters that they suspected the skull had been left under the bridge as part of a traditional funerary ritual by fishermen.
While investigations are underway, Ming Pao reports that the police do not currently believe there are any suspicious circumstances, and are treating the case as a “discovery of human bones”.
