Six mainland tourists go berserk after flight delay, charging gate at Hong Kong airport

Six mainland tourists were arrested today at Hong Kong International Airport for assaulting seven ground crew members after their flight to Beijing was delayed, reports Ming Pao.

The Hong Kong Airlines flight was originally scheduled to leave at 8:10pm last night, but was delayed due to air traffic control in Beijing, according to a spokeswoman from the airline.

The scuffle occurred at around 2am, when hundreds of passengers were notified that flight 304 from Hong Kong to Beijing was delayed again.

One female passenger then tried to rush the gate, which prompted seven ground crew members to stop her. Five other passengers then followed her lead.

When police arrived, the six tourists, aged 21 to 42, were arrested on suspicion of assault, and were still being held for questioning with no formal charges pressed as of 11:30am today, reports the SCMP.

The ground crew members suffered minor injuries, and the flight finally took off at 4:45am after a delay of eight and a half hours.

As of now, the police are reportedly treating this incident as a case of common assault and will continue their investigation.
