Show me the (fake) money: Police discover new counterfeit HKD1000 bill

The police have announced that they uncovered a new type of counterfeit HKD1,000 bill, ensuring that Hong Kong stores will continue to decline HKD1,000 bills for the foreseeable future.

The police first seized this new edition of fake bills on Dec. 27, 2014.

The authorities have been combatting the issue for a while now: from Jan. to Sep. 2014, they seized 1,717 ccounterfeit banknotes.

According to the police, there is less than one fake bill for every million real bills in circulation.

The police advise anyone who receives a fake banknote to immediately hand it over to the police, and reminded those dumb enough to need a warning to not try to re-use them.

The real banknote (on the left) says 2008, while the fake on (on the right) says 2009.

On the left, you can see a real banknote under a UV note. On the right, a fake one.
