Hong Kong is expensive, we get that. But Hong Kong is also awesome, meaning lots of visitors are forced to sleep in less than ideal accommodation so that they’re able to afford food during their stay.
One entrepreneur/spin doctor/amateur hotelier is offering budget travellers to Hong Kong an… unconventional abode.
The dude, identified only as “Steve” and a self-proclaimed “world traveler” and “lover of food and culture”, is offering potential guests a tent on the roof of a building in Central.
Charging HKD250 per person, per night (plus cleaning fee and airbnb’s service fee), Steve calls the tent a “must-have experience”, asking you to “immagine [sic] surrounded by beautifully lit up buildings sipping your favorite beverage :)”.

To be fair, it does look charming in its own way, with a picnic table on a patch of fake grass, and some plants to brighten the place up.
Of course, for that kind of money, there’s a catch: there are no toilets available. Instead there are “new clean public toilets downstairs”, and for showers, you’ll have to go to the recreational club (it’s unclear where that is and whether you’re actually permitted to do that).
You would be hard-pressed to find a place that’s pet-friendly and this cheap, and the location is difficult to beat: right by the escalators and the MTR station.
There’s also free wi-fi and washing machine! Score!

As disingenous as the description sounds, the reviews are actually overwhelmingly positive.
One guy named Tom said: “In travelling for the last 47 years from 5 Star NYC to 5 Star Japan from Camping on Beaches in Turkey to sleeping on slowly sinking Fishing Boats in Greece, I’ve not experienced anything as much fun as Steve’s Rooftop Camping Cantonese Style !! [sic]”
Next time some long lost acquaintance hits you up and asks if they can crash on your couch, you might want to give Steve a referral.
