Seven people were this week given prison sentences that ranged from eight to 19 years for throwing acid in the face of a watch company owner’s apparent mistress.
Deputy Judge Audrey Campbell-Moffat, who described the attack as “brutal”, said that the crime would not have been successful without the participation of Fok Ka-po, a former colleague of the businessman’s wife, who suspected her husband of having an affair with the victim.
The female victim, a subordinate of the businessman, suffered burns on her face and had to fly to South Korea for surgery to remove scars.
Fok received a sentence of 18 years for helping to plan the attack even though he knew the consequences would be serious, Campbell-Moffat said, according Apple Daily (as translated by HKFP).
Meanwhile, Ng Yan-lok, then 19, was sentenced to 19 years for helping to recruit then 15-year-old Kwok Siu-yu to commit the crime.
Kwok said he only thought he was to serve as a lookout when he was paid HKD3,000 to participate in the crime. He claimed he felt forced to throw acid in the woman’s face because he knew the triads were involved.
After previously being arrested, the businessman’s wife remains under investigation. She was previously released due to lack of evidence.
