Service with a Sneer: Hong Kong ranks third-lowest in world for customer service

Fed up of surly sales people? Well now it’s official: Hong Kong has been ranked the third-worst place in the world for customer service.

The survey of 41 places by the Mystery Shoppers Service Association put Hong Kong at 39, just ahead of South Korea and Slovenia. Our main problem is that we don’t smile. But who’s to blame?

According to the association’s chairman Wong Siu-leung, the Occupy movement contributed to a bad ranking for Hong Kong, as one of the grumpiest group was found to be staff members from the transport industry, reports EJ Insight.

Okay, so that’s the democracy scapegoats ticked off.

But according to Cheung Lai-ha, head of the Retail, Commerce and Clothing Industries General Union, frowning frontline staff in shops aren’t given enough support when dealing with rude mainland customers.

Yep, so that’s the mainland scapegoats covered.

But then Cheung also blamed the central government’s graft campaign, which she says has made it harder for sales people to make commission.

Right, so now we’re blaming a crackdown on corruption.

Maybe Hongkongers are just grumpy?
