A 24-year-old unmarried woman had a miscarriage last year and became depressed and unable to sleep. A scam man, who sold amulets and feng shui fish in a shop, took advantage of this and claimed that he is a holy man who can help her dead baby’s spirit rest in peace. The young woman believed him and was eventually forced into sex with him, even handing over HK$70,000 in a “loan” he never returned.
According to the woman, the scam man, 35-years-old and surnamed Ho, was asked to take part in a bizarre ritual involving her hair, tears, egg, pubic hair, and sperm, in order for her baby to rest in peace. When she arrived at his flat to carry out the ritual, the man forced her into sex. He claimed that this helps the process and that she needs to continue having sex with him to avert her fate of being a mistress. Later, the two became lovers and dated for six months. He convinced her to loan him HK$70,000, again in the name of averting her destiny of becoming a mistress. When he did not return the money, the woman started feeling suspicious and, realizing she was being cheated, called the police.
The man, when arrested, denied all that happened and said he was married and was just having an extramarital affair with the woman (the irony).
