A seven-year-old girl in Primary Two at the Tin Shui Wai Shap Pat Heung Rural Committee Kung Yik She Primary School fell down a flight of stairs and the school dismissed her injury bruises, when it was, in fact, a fracture, and made her sit an exam after the accident.
Apparently, a school staff member, with an expired first aid qualification, put a band-aid on the student’s left knee and notified the mother about the incident, but requested the student stay in school to take an English listening exam.
When the student returned home two hours later, the mother found her left eye swollen with an obvious injury on her left knee cap. The child also vomited four times and cried non-stop.
The mother took her to a clinic which referred her to an emergency room, where doctors found a fracture. She stayed at the hospital for observation for four days and returned to school in a wheel chair.
The angry mother complained to the Education Department and is requesting her daughter be switched to a different school.
