Firefighters and rescue crew are searching for a woman after she went missing while hiking alone in the northern New Territories.
The 42-year-old hiker, Vivian Wong, was last seen by her parents Saturday noon when she left home for Kwu Tung Reservoir and Ki Lun Shan, located west of Sheung Shui. She told her family that she would be back for dinner.
According to a Facebook post written by his brother, Wong has shoulder-length brown hair and was wearing leggings from activewear brand YPL, Reebok hiking shoes, and a black backpack.
Wong was last seen online on social media at about 1:30 pm Saturday.
Her relatives reported her as missing to police later in the afternoon. Government Flying Service and Fire Department personnel were mobilized for the search operation.
Wong’s boyfriend Billy told HK01 that Wong has over five years of hiking experience, and that she would have brought along water, a hat and other equipment. Billy added that Wong is healthy and has no known financial problems. He suspects that she may have suffered from heatstroke or had an accident while hiking.
In April, a 24-year-old woman was found dead on Kowloon Peak three days after she set out hiking alone. During the search operation, a blue shoe and a fisherman’s hat belonging to her were uncovered near the hiking trail.
