As if the whole whoops-we-were-trying-to-stage-a-walk-out-because-someone-was-late-but-we-got-confused fiasco wasn’t embarrassing enough, Regina Ip started shedding tears of sadness today during a press conference because she was so upset she didn’t cast a vote in favour of the electoral reform bill.
“I was so sad I couldn’t cast a vote,” she lamented, according to Apple Daily.
“We had this one chance and I don’t know when we’ll have it again, so I’m really sad.”
“Last night I couldn’t fall asleep, then I woke up in the middle of the night,” Ip continued, choking back tears.
“We worked so hard for 20 months, I really wanted to cast that vote.”
Luckily for her, Beijing’s decided that the vote didn’t matter anyway, and that their decision on Aug. 31 last year still stands.
“The decision shall continue to serve as the constitutional ground for Hong Kong in the future as it enforces universal suffrage in the chief executive election, and its legal force is unquestionable,” said a National People’s Congress Standing Committee statement.
