Red Cross covers up huge logo after nearby residents complain it’s bad feng shui

The Hong Kong Red Cross has just spent HKD400 million to open its brand new headquarters on the West Kowloon waterfront, but local residents aren’t so happy.

The organisation chose to proudly feature a giant five-metre-by-five-metre version of its signature red cross on the side of the building, prompting ire from its neighbours on Hoi Ting Road, reports the Bastille Post.

According to Coconuts’ favourite feng shui master, Thierry Chow, crosses – simlarly to churches, hospitals and graveyards – have a significant impact on health, especially if it’s near to or directly visible from your home.

These structures are considered to be “unlucky” and to have negative energy.

“If you stare at it every day, it will definitely affect your mindset,” Chow told us.

Residents complained that the cross gave off a “bad aura”, that it was “supernatural”.

Whether you believe in feng shui or not, it is pretty unsightly, particularly considering people had a sea view before the headquarters were built.

The Red Cross decided to cover up the sign for now until they are able to take it down and put in a new smaller and lower logo, so that it’s not in the faces of those living in buildings across the street.
