Radio station objects after ‘blacklisted’ Hong Kong journalist denied entry to the Philippines

A Hong Kong radio station has slammed the Philippines government after it denied a journalist entry to the country, seemingly because he was one of nine reporters blacklisted for asking the president questions about the 2010 hostage crisis.

Commercial Radio Hong Kong called the decision of Philippine Immigration “incomprehensible” after its journalist was turned around on arrival in Manila for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the station said the staff member was one of nine Hong Kong reporters blacklisted by the Philippines government in 2013 after pressing President Benigno Aquino to answer questions about the 2010 Manila hostage siege that left eight Hong Kong tourists dead.

Curiously, however, Hong Kong’s Consulate General of the Philippines told Ming Pao last year that the entry ban had been lifted. These guys clearly need to set up a Whatsapp group chat or something.

The radio station said it is seeking assistance from the Hong Kong government.
