A “racing party” turned Christmas Eve into a night of destructive rampage on the road with speeds over 150 kilometres per hour and reckless collision, totalling a wealthy couple’s BMW and two other cars in two separate incidents.
The victim, Wong, was driving on the Tsing Sha Highway when a Honda Type-R racing car, part of a racing party of five other cars, crashed into another BMW sedan which flipped over and hit the victim’s BMW 4WD. The couple’s 4WD overturned and they found themselves trapped in the car, where they banged on the windows and cried for help as smoke raised all around them.
Drivers of other race cars ignored the couples’ cries and pushed the car blocking the road away to let the other race cars past. The driver of the Honda Type-R removed his license plates and all evidence before opening the door of the BMW 4WD to let the couple crawl out. He escaped with the other cars in the Tai Po direction—30 minutes later, another car heading toward Hong Lok Yuen got hit by the same racing party. Drivers of the car hit by the racing cars were injured and sent to the hospital.
