A Quarry Bay food stand has been forcibly closed for 14 days over the Christmas period after repeatedly breaching food safety regulations by washing utensils in an alley.
The “light refreshment restaurant” located on the ground floor of 985 King’s Road was on Sunday ordered to suspend business until Dec. 27 as punishment for staff being caught washing cutlery, plates and pans outside in May and October this year.
The same eatery was also forced to shut up shop for seven days between June 29 and July 5 for the same breach in August last year and April this year. Well that’s the staff’s summer and Christmas holidays sorted then.
The two incidents also saw measly fines of HKD3,300 and HKD2,100, respectively, and the restaurant losing 15 points for each incident under the Food and Hygiene Department demerit points system.
It seems such punishments have had little effect in this case, but a spokesman said the outlet could lose its licence entirely if such activities continue.
We’re going to see a WHOLE lot of restaurants closing in Hong Kong if this is the new way of things!
