Pussy Power: Hello Kitty turns 40 years young at Hong Kong exhibition

If you were as weirded out as we were when we learnt back in August that Hello Kitty is not actually a cat, but a “five apple-tall” 40-year-old woman from suburban London, now’s your chance to get up close and personal with the cute pretender.

To mark her birthday on Nov 1, Sanrio, the company behind and creator of anthropomorphic “cat”, will be in Hong Kong (KITEC at Kowloon Bay to be more specific) until Nov. 16, throwing her the party of a lifetime at the grand Hello Kitty GO Around!! carnival.

With a life-sized carousel and Ferris wheel, stalls with Hello Kitty themed games, a mini-theatre featuring a three-minute video about life in Sanrio Town, and a dedicated selfie section, we’re sure this is going to be a hit with a certain type of Hongkonger.

What’s even better is that the current designer of Hello Kitty, Yuko Yamaguchi, will be flying in on Nov. 8 to chat with all of her admiring fans and to give insight into the creative development behind the billion dollar character and industry.

Consider yourself an infatuated fan? You know where to go! Check out details here, and grab your tickets here! Priced between HKD60 – HKD130, the event is a bit of a bargain to meet your (everyone’s) favourite cat.

Just don’t think about the fact that she may have hit her midlife crisis.
