Public school requests parents pay HK25,000 for overseas study tour

The Grieving Parents at a German war cemetery in Vladslo, Belgium

A public school in Kwun Tong organised a study tour in Germany and the cost of participating in the tour per student is HK$25,000, shocking many less well-off families. Parents complained that organising an expensive school tour like this discriminates and excludes the students on government aid.

The school denied discrimination and explained that as this is the 100th anniversary of the First World War, Germany was picked as a destination. 20 students have already joined, half of whom are from families on government aid. The tour is 12 days and includes plane tickets, transport, room and board, and is optional.
