Public housing elevator breaks down and drops 17 floors

Hong Ming Estate, Fanling

Scary! An elevator in a public housing estate, Hong Ming House, in Fanling broke down with five people inside it.

When it reached the 17th floor, the door closed for three minutes and then lost control, plunging down. Luckily, it eventually stabilised but the elevator ended up one and a half foot below the floor, and the trapped residents had to climb up to get rescued when the firemen came.

Now, all six thousand residents of the estate are worried about the safety of the elevators in the estate, which are all managed by the same company.
