Protest demanding release of 5 mainland feminist activists to take place in Causeway Bay

This Saturday, activists will be holding a protest in Causeway Bay demanding the release of five feminists in mainland China.

The organisers of the march, the Defend China Feminists Campaign, are meeting at 11am on Saturday at the Times Square clock tower.

The detained activists, aged between 26 and 32, are Wu Rongrong, Zheng Churan, Li Tingting, Wang Man and Wei Tingting, according to the protest organisers.

The five women were detained on suspicion of “picking quarrels and creating a disturbance” ahead of their plans to highlight sexual harassment on International Women’s Day on March 8, reports the Guardian.

Nine female activists were seized in total, but four have since been released.

The remaining five have been in custody for about a month.
