Pro-democracy activist Tommy Cheung was physically attacked in Tai Wai on Monday night, according to a post by his campaign team on Facebook.
The post said Cheung, who hopes to run as a candidate in the March legislative by-elections, was beaten by unknown men near his election office about 11pm.
It added that the 23-year-old activist suffered injuries to his head and hand and was taken to hospital, where he spoke with police about the incident.
The campaign team claimed two non-ethnic Chinese men, aged around 30 to 40 years old, with dark skin, carried out the assault, reported HKFP.
Earlier in the day, Cheung posted on Facebook that he had been sent a razor blade wrapped in a newspaper clipping with the Chinese character for “kill” written on it.

The clipping related to a press conference last week where Cheung alleged two companies linked to pro-Beijing figures were part of a bid-rigging network.
Cheung is among three contenders in upcoming primaries to select a single pro-democracy candidate to run in the Legislative Council by-election for the New Territories East constituency this March.
He is also scheduled to appear today at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts as one of nine pro-democracy figures charged with public nuisance for their parts in the 2014 pro-democracy Occupy protests. The hearing is a pre-trial review.
